Location: Betalbatim, South Goa
Martin's Corner was started of from a small shop where boys from the locality would come to play carom or drop in for a soft drink. As it gained popularity Mrs Carfina started to serve traditional Goan dishes. This corner store was then extended into a small eat out with four tables. The first major expansion came about the vacant open space between the store and the residence was brought under roof to cater to a crowd that made expansion much required. Mrs Carafina is being awarded "The Life Time Achievement Award" at the International cuisine conference held at Hotel Fidalgo - Goa on Sept 2007.
Much stress is given to the kitchen which is personally supervised by master chef Mrs Carafina Pereira and high level of hygiene are maintained making Martin's Corner a safe place to eat. Mrs Carafina with her sons Porbes, Jose and Bonny has nurtured Martin's Corner named after her late husband Mr. Martin Pereira. Besides the cream of the Goan Society regular to this restaurant include popular film stars, politicians and sports personalities. Men with class do things with class so with Master Blaster Mr. Sachin Tendulkar who prefers to be here, so much so that a dish has been named after him.
The seafood at Martin's Corner is superb and the menu is extensive. Here one can get to choose from a variety of Goan cuisine such as 'Snapper reicheido', 'Pomfret caldin', Goan fish curry, 'Vindaloo', 'Chicken cafreal', 'Ambot tik', 'Prawn balchao' and 'xec xec'. The seafood includes fish mol or pickled fish, which is a Goan specialty, king crab, tiger prawns, pomfrets, king fish, snapper, squids, shark and lots more.
As the restaurant is situated amidst a lot of greenery with a mixture of mango, coconut, jackfruit and others fruit bearing trees the customers are given an added soothing effect. The restaurant is also usually packed in the evenings so it is better to make bookings earlier in order to avoid last minute disappointments.
